On March 23rd,2018, a fatal accident involving self-driving technology occurred in California, Mountain View. The accident is being investigated by the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). The car involved was from Tesla, the Model X. 

According to the California Highway Patrol, the Tesla switched lanes and wrecked into a highway median, crushing the barrier. Upon the crash on highway 101, the partly autonomous Tesla burst into flames and was immediately hit by two more cars

Tesla has a feature called Autopilot, which allows the vehicle to use a program to drive itself. After investigation on Tesla’s part, in concurrence with the NTSB, it was discovered that the Autopilot feature was, in fact, on during the fatal crash.
