Know the Symptoms of PAGCL, Especially if You Used a Shoulder Pain Pump

You chose to have shoulder surgery because of painful symptoms you were experiencing.  Now, you may be experiencing the exact same symptoms, only worse, and may be asking yourself why it is happening again.  It is important to understand that if you had shoulder surgery and used a pain pump, you could have developed a condition known as post-arthroscopic glenohumeral chondrolysis, also referred to as PAGCL.

PAGCL is a medical condition that occurs when cartilage located between the ball and socket of the shoulder has broken down so severely that bone actually meets bone.  There are many possible causes of PAGCL, including the use of a pain pump following shoulder surgery.

Often times, the warning signs of PAGCL do not surface until months or even up to a year after shoulder surgery and unfortunately, once the symptoms begin, they may not be treatable.  You need to familiarize yourself with the signs of this deteriorating condition, so you can seek medical attention immediately.

PAGCL symptoms include the following:

  • Stiffness in the shoulder
  • Pain in the shoulder when it is moved
  • Shoulder pain when it’s at rest
  • Limited range of motion in the shoulder
  • Shoulder weakness
  • Shoulder joint pops or grinds
  • Joint space becomes narrow

If you have experienced any of these symptoms, you need to visit your doctor right away.  PAGCL almost always requires treatment.  There is a chance that you will have to have surgery, depending on the severity of your condition.

When PAGCL is the result of a shoulder pain pump used after surgery, you may be able to recover compensation for your injuries.  There have been many cases recently regarding these pain pumps and it would be wise for you to consult with an experienced Kentucky pain pump lawyer.
