Two Children Injured in Louisville Bus Accident

Posted on Sep 28, 2011
A Louisville bus accident occurred Friday morning around 9:00 at Westport Road and Freys Hill Road that involved a Jefferson County school bus, bus #9976. According to officials, the bus was near Tom Sawyer State Park and was en route to Bowen Elementary School when it was involved in a head-on crash with another car.

The Louisville Metro Police Department arrived on scene and found four people in need of medical care. The four injured included two adult drivers and two students. They were transported to area hospitals including Norton Brownsboro Hospital and Kosair Hospital for medical care.

Out of the 36 students on the bus, two sustained minor bumps on their heads. Another bus arrived on scene to transport the remaining students to Bowen Elementary.

After an investigation, the police ruled that a male driver in a Buick, traveling eastbound on Westport Road, drifted into the westbound lanes and sideswiped a black Ford 500 vehicle. Then, the Buick collided with the school bus that was also traveling westbound.

The driver of the Buick and the driver of the Ford suffered minor injuries in the crash.

Police are not sure what caused the Buick driver to drift into the oncoming lanes of traffic, and the wreck remains under investigation.

Schachter, Hendy, & Johnson would like to wish the victims of this Louisville accident a fast recovery.
