On Monday, October 17, 2011, a toddler was injured when two vehicles collided in a Lincoln crash. According to authorities, 20-month-old Khiana Dowell was in a car that was hit from behind.
Dowell, a Lincoln County toddler, suffered a traumatic brain injury in this Kentucky crash. She was taken to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital in Lexington, but later died. The accident occurred around 5:30 p.m. on Monday, and the toddler succumbed to her injuries on Wednesday around 9 a.m.
According to the Kentucky State Police, Khiana Dowell was one of four occupants that were riding in a Saturn that was rear-ended by a 2008 Kia SUV. All four people were injured in this accident that took place at U.S. 27 and Shake Rage Road, south of Standford.
There was another young child in the car, 6-month-old Cameron Dowell. He was listed in fair condition, and authorities indicated that both children were traveling in child safety seats at the time of the collision. Kacey and Brandon Dowell, the children's mother and father, were also injured and taken to UK hospital. The father was treated and released, and there is no word about the mother's condition at this time.
The two occupants in the Kia were not injured, and no charges have been made at this time, as police are still investigating this fatal crash.
Our Lexington accident attorneys at Schachter, Hendy, & Johnson are saddened to hear of this fatal car wreck claiming the life of such a young victim, and we send our deepest condolences to the family and friends of little Khiana Dowell. We also wish for a complete recovery for the rest of the family injured in this crash.
