Tire Blowout Claims Life of 17-Year-Old High School Student

Posted on Jul 04, 2012

A Louisville teen driver was killed in a Northern Kentucky car accident on Saturday, June 9, 2012. Police said that the teenager lost control of his car when he was on his way to work that day.

Dakota Pitzer, the 17-year-old teenager and driver in this single car crash, was driving southbound on Interstate 71 near mile marker 7 when the fatal accident took place. According to police investigators, Pitzer’s tire blew on his jeep, which caused him to lose control of the vehicle.

At that time, the jeep he was driving flipped over several times into oncoming northbound traffic and over an embankment before coming to a rest. Authorities indicated that Pitzer was wearing his seat belt, but that he suffered critical injuries in this Louisville crash. Sadly, he died at the scene of the accident from blunt force trauma.

Pitzer had just finished his junior year at Atherton High School and had recently started his new job as a lifeguard at the Breckinridge Inn Pool over Memorial Day weekend. He is being described as a nice guy, hard worker, and a charming young man. Additionally, the teen’s mother told news reporters that her son was an Eagle Scout in Troop 314.

At this time, there is no word if police are still investigating the crash to determine if there was a defective tire involved or what caused the tire to blowout.

Our Louisville auto accident attorneys at the Law Offices of Schachter, Hendy, & Johnson would like to send our deepest condolences to the family and friends Dakota Pitzer leaves behind.
