On Thanksgiving Day 2011, one family’s life was forever changed when they lost their father in a fatal Mercer County car crash. According to the Kentucky State Police, the crash happened at U.S. 127 and U.S. 68 in Harrodsburg, KY.
The Thursday afternoon wreck claimed the life of 26-year-old Jose Fernando Navarro Menza. Menza died of his injuries later at Lexington’s University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital around 4:25 p.m.
Menza, of Harrodsburg, was traveling in his 2000 Dodge Neon with his three children and Elena Francisco-Pascual, 21, of Harrodsburg. The Neon was struck by a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by 44-year-old Michele Strunk, of Harrodsburg.
Police indicated that Strunk ran a red light and collided into Menza’s vehicle at the driver’s side door. This fatal Thanksgiving Day crash also caused injuries to Menza’s three children and his wife. The children are expected to survive, but Menza’s wife is still in critical condition.
Strunk was also taken to the Lexington hospital for medical care and is also in critical condition.
Police are still investigating this crash and have not pressed charges in this wreck at this time.
The attorneys at Schachter, Hendy, & Johnson would like to wish the family and friends of Jose Fernando Navarro Menza our deepest condolences, and we wish the rest of those injured in this crash a full recovery.
