South Fairmont Accident Leaves One Dead

Posted on Dec 04, 2009
A South Fairmont pedestrian accident just outside of Cincinnati leaves a 26-year-old man dead. The incident involving two vehicles took place at approximately 2:00 PM on Saturday afternoon, November 19, 2009.

According to Cincinnati police, the incident occurred near the intersection of Westwood Avenue and Grand Avenue in South Fairmont when Samira Holt, 21, drove through a red light and slammed into another vehicle. The force of the collision caused Holt’s car to careen onto the sidewalk, killing 26-year-old Matthew Ash, who was walking on the sidewalk.

Rescue workers transported Holt to University Hospital where he was treated for injuries. Police have described his injuries as non-life threatening. There was also an 8-month old baby in Holt’s car. Police report that the baby was not injured.

The driver of the second car involved in the accident suffered minor injuries sustained in the crash. It was unclear on whether the victim was transported to a nearby hospital.

“It’s unfortunate and unlikely. I just couldn’t believe it. I mean, stunned,” said Derek Johnson, Ash’s roommate. “My life will never be the same.”

The fatal pedestrian accident is still under investigation by local authorities. However, police have not made any arrests at this time.
