Shively Car Accident Involving School Bus Claims Life of One

A Shively car accident involving four vehicles, including a school bus, claims the life of a man and sends three children to a local hospital. The incident took place at approximately 8:30 AM on Monday morning, September 13, 2010, in the 1800 block of Berry Boulevard.
According to Louisville Metro spokesperson Alicia Smiley, Nicholas Federspiel, 89, of Shively, was traveling eastbound on Berry Boulevard when he attempted to change lanes in his Ford Taurus. That is when his vehicle was struck by a Chevrolet Silverado truck.
The force of the impact caused Federspiel to lose control of his vehicle and sent his vehicle into the westbound lanes and into the path of a school bus. He then hit a telephone pole and a fourth car.
Rescue crews transported Federspiel to University Hospital where he lost his life that evening. However, Jefferson County Deputy Coroner Larry Carroll indicated that it was unclear as to whether Federspiel lost his life from injuries sustained in the accident or from natural causes.
Three children from the school bus were transported to Kosair Children’s Hospital. Their conditions were not immediately made known. The bus driver was taken to Norton Hospital for observation.
The multi-vehicle Shively auto accident is still under investigation by local authorities.
