Shively Auto Accident with Train Leaves One Injured

A Shively auto accident involving a train leaves one man injured after his car and a train collide along Dixie Highway outside of Louisville. The incident took place at approximately 5:00 PM on Monday evening, April 1, 2011, at Appleton Lane.
According to Shively Police, a white, full-sized sedan was hit by a train along Dixie Highway after the northbound driver attempted to go around a TARC bus. The car was then dragged down the train track for an unspecified distance.
Fortunately, there was only one person in the car at the time of the collision. The driver's injuries were not considered to be life-threatening. The identity of the driver was not immediately made available. There were no reported injuries on the train.
The car was removed approximately an hour later, and the train was allowed to continue on its course.
"Anytime you approach a train track and you see the warning lights are activated and gates are down, you need to stop," said Major Kevin Higdon with the Shively Police Department. "As you can tell from the accident, you could end up working a fatality because you're in a hurry and never make it to where you want to be."
The Shively auto accident is still under investigation by local authorities.
This is an unfortunate incident, and we wish the driver a speedy recovery during this difficult time.
