A Scott County truck accident involving a pickup truck and a tractor-trailer claims the life of an elderly woman. The incident took place at approximately 12:45 PM on Tuesday afternoon, November 10, 2009.
The fatal incident happened at the intersection of U.S. Highway 27 and State Highway 63 when Edith Mae Macrum, 85, of Oneida, allegedly pulled her Dodge Ram pickup truck onto State Highway 63 and into the path of a tractor-trailer.
According to reports, the driver of the tractor-trailer, William P. Renfro, 45, of Louisville, attempted to avoid Macrum by veering to the right of her pickup truck. He was unsuccessful and slammed into the right side of Macrum, killing her.
Troopers found both the pickup truck and the tractor-trailer stopped on the embankment of the U.S. Highway 27 side when they arrived on the scene.
Renfro suffered injuries from the truck wreck. However, details of his injuries and whether he was transported to a nearby by hospital were not available.
The fatal two-vehicle accident is still under investigation by local authorities. However, reports indicate that both drivers were wearing seatbelts at the time the incident occurred. Drugs and alcohol are not suspected as contributing factors in the accident.
