NY Daily News: Testosterone Therapy Increases Heart Risks

Posted on Nov 07, 2013

New York Daily News reports that new research shows that men on testosterone therapy are more likely to have a heart attack, stroke or die. Doctors note that prior to this study the long term side effects of testosterone therapy were largely unknown. The researchers found that the use of testosterone therapy caused a 29% increase in the risk of heart attack, stroke and death.

Doctors are empasizing that testosterone therapy has been widely advertised by the manufacturers of the drugs and supplements. As a result, the number of men on testosterone therapy has tripled in the last decade. In light of the dramatic increase in the risk of heart attack, stroke and death shown by the recent study, doctors are now cautioning that the possible benefits of testosterone therapy need to be carefully weighed against the serious risks associated with the therapy.
