Louisville Pileup Kills One, Injures Several

Posted on Feb 08, 2012
On Tuesday, January 17th, 2012, a deadly accident in Louisville occurred on the Gene Snyder Freeway. According to officials, the fatal collision was a result of a multi-vehicle crash that left one person dead and several others injured.

When emergency crews arrived on scene, they declared a passenger inside one of the vehicles dead. Additionally, drivers of all of the cars involved in this wreck were taken to University Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Officials said the Snyder crash took place around 1:30 PM near the Westport Road exit, leaving the northbound side of the freeway closed at LaGrange Road for several hours.

This crash was not directly related to the bad weather, but weather was a factor that caused a previous crash further north. The strong, tornado-strength winds caused a tractor-trailer to tip over near Westport Road and slow traffic in the area, according to Louisville Metro Police spokeswoman Carey Klain.

As traffic was slowing, a driver of a small bus wasn’t paying attention and did not slow down. The bus crashed into the rear of a Chevy Impala. This impact caused the Impala to be pushed forward and crash into a red Toyota Camry and silver Hyundai compact SUV. An elderly female passenger inside the Impala was killed, and the driver of the Impala and the drivers of the other two cars involved were seriously injured.

The driver of the bus only sustained minor injuries. Police have not filed charges in this accident at this time, as an investigation is still in process.

The attorneys of Schachter, Hendy, & Johnson would like to extend our condolences to the family and friends of the woman who died in this deadly Louisville Kentucky crash.
