Louisville Motorcycle Accident Claims the Life of One Over Holiday Weekend

A Louisville motorcycle accident involving a car claims the life of a motorcyclist after being hit by the car over the Memorial Day weekend. The incident took place at approximately 5:00 on Monday evening, May 30, 2011, at the intersection of Jackson Street and Jacob Street in the Smoketown neighborhood.
According to the Louisville Metro Police Department, the motorcyclist was heading north along Jackson Street when he was hit by a brown Chevrolet Camaro, which was traveling east on Jacob Street. The force of the impact knocked the motorcyclist, who has been identified as Jay Kirchner, 33, of Louisville, off his bike where he was fatally injured. It was unclear as to whether or not he was wearing a motorcycle helmet.
There were no other injuries or other vehicles reported to be involved in the wreck. The driver of the Camaro was not immediately identified.
Witnesses to the crash were interviewed by officers to see if alcohol or speed played a possible role in the crash.
The fatal Louisville motorcycle accident is still under investigation by local authorities as they attempt to determine what caused the accident and who was at fault.
