Louisville Car Accident Leaves Officer Injured

Posted on Apr 08, 2011
A Louisville car accident involving two vehicles leaves a Louisville Metro Police Officer injured after he was struck while working at a traffic accident. The incident took place on Thursday morning, March 24, 2011, at the intersection of Liberty Street and Brook Street.

According to Louisville Metro Police Spokesperson, Carey Klain, Officer Paul Foster was handling an accident that occurred at Liberty and Brook Streets when the officer was injured. Ms. Klain says that a woman driving a maroon Toyota Scion suffered a medical emergency while behind the wheel causing her foot to hit the accelerator.

Officer Foster then attempted to run after the car on foot. He was hit when the car came to a stop after crashing into a light pole on Liberty Street. Officer Foster's injuries were described as minor.

"It might have knocked him out because Foster was not moving," said Steve Kemper, who witnessed the accident. "Some other people stopped and tried to help the officer."

"It shook me up, and I'm still shaken up a bit," said Officer Foster.

The Louisville car accident is still under investigation by local authorities. The type of medical emergency the driver of the Toyota sustained has yet to be determined.
