Louisville Car Accident Involves LMPD Cruiser

Posted on Aug 20, 2010

A Louisville car accident involving a Louisville Metro Police Department cruiser and a DUI suspect leaves two people injured. The incident took place at approximately 10:00 PM on Monday, August 16, 2010, on Shelbyville Road near Whittington Parkway.

According to reports, a Louisville Metro Police officer made a traffic stop on Shelbyville Road, in front of Louisville’s Shelby Campus, when the officer’s cruiser was rear-ended by a Ford Explorer. The cruiser was in the westbound lanes and outside the cruiser when the accident occurred.

Rescue crews transported the officer and the driver of the Ford Explorer to a nearby hospital where they were treated for injuries sustained in the collision. Fortunately, their injuries have been reported as being minor. It was unclear as to whether the driver of the car that the police officer had pulled over was also injured in the accident.

Reports indicate that the officer had his emergency lights on prior to the incident. The driver of the Ford Explorer is suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol. Neither of their names were immediately made known.

The Louisville auto accident is still under investigation by local authorities.

This is an unfortunate incident and we wish both injured victims a quick recovery during this difficult time.
