A Louisville car accident involving a single vehicle claims the life of one man and leaves another hospitalized. The incident took place at approximately 5:30 AM on Tuesday morning, June 1, 2010, in the Portland neighborhood.
According to the Louisville Metro Police Department, the driver was traveling westbound on Portland Avenue at a high rate of speed when he lost control of his vehicle and slammed into the steps of the Louisville Free Public Library. There were two men inside the vehicle at the time of the crash.
Rescue crews transported both victims to University Hospital and where they were treated for injuries sustained in the wreck. The driver, who had been identified as Anthony Higgs, 24, of Louisville, was pronounced dead a short-time later. The passenger’s injuries have been described as non-life threatening. He has been identified as a man in his 20’s; however, his name was not immediately made known.
The early morning fatal car accident is still under investigation by local authorities. However, police have indicated that alcohol may have been a contributing factor to the single-vehicle wreck.
This is a terrible tragedy and our thoughts and condolences go out to all of those who have been affected by the incident.
