Cochlear implant failures and injuries including hearing loss, shocking, seizures and severe pain continue to occur. Recently, attorney Ronald Johnson has filed lawsuits on behalf of four children who have expeirenced one or more of these injuries due to the failure of their cochlear implant. Johnson was co-counsel in the case of a young girl who was repeatedly shocked and injured by her defective cochlear implant. In 2013 a jury in Louisville, Kentucky returned a verdict of more than 7 million dollars against the company that manufactured the cochlear implant. That particular implant was recalled by the FDA.
Now, Johnson is filing suits for defective cochlear implants made and sold by Cochlear America that have also been the subject of an FDA recall. Although the recall of the Nucleus ci512 model occurred in 2011, many patients were unaware of the recall and that a defect in their implant could be the cause of severe shocking and failure of the device.
