Girl Dies in Lexington Pedestrian Accident With Van

Posted on Jul 25, 2011
On Friday, June 24, 2011, a girl was killed in a Lexington pedestrian accident involving a van at Constitution Park. According to authorities, the 12-year-old girl sustained multiple injuries and died of blunt-force trauma.

The Fayette County coroner's office has identified the girl as Sierra Hubbard, of Lexington.

Police indicated that Sierra was walking next to a 2005 Kia Sedona at the park, which is near Northern Elementary School on Rookwood Parkway. Sierra was talking with the passengers inside the van and attempted to get inside while it was moving. Unfortunately, she fell in the process, and the van hit her.

Julie B. Reece, the driver of the van, believed she was only moving 5 mph or less when the van hit Sierra; however, this Northern Kentucky accident caused severe head injury.

Two of Sierra's siblings were in the van and had just been playing at Constitution Park when they decided to leave, but Sierra decided to walk towards the park's entrance when this tragedy occurred.

Police do not suspect that alcohol or drugs were involved, but they are awaiting a toxicology report before they rule anything out. They are treating this case as an accident.

We are truly saddened to hear about this devastating accident and extend our condolences to the family and friends of Sierra Hubbard.
