A two-vehicle accident on Interstate 71 claimed the life of one person. Kentucky State Police, Gallatin County police, fire and medical personnel all responded to the accident scene.
The fatal Gallatin County car accident occurred at approximately 2:30 AM at mile marker 63 southbound. Kentucky State Police were the first ones on the scene.
The tragic accident took place when a tractor-trailer hit an abandoned vehicle parked in the emergency lane of the interstate. Thomas Kellett, a 58-year-old Como, Tennessee resident, was driving at the time and 55-year-old Teresa Kellett was a passenger in the sleeper portion of the truck.
According to police, the truck went past the location of the abandoned car and off of the west side of the interstate through the guardrail and over an embankment. Teresa was ejected from the truck and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Gallatin County Coroner. Thomas was injured in the crash and was airlifted by PHI Air Medical.
Trooper Justin Sams, along with Kentucky State Police, is investigating the Kentucky truck accident.
