Fox News: Testosterone Therapy Should Be Cautiously Prescribed

Posted on Nov 07, 2013

Fox News reports that a new study has found that testosterone therapy increases the risk of heart attack, stroke and death by 29%. Based on these results, the authors of the study recommended that testosterone therapy should be cautiously prescribed. Doctors are cautioning that the long term benefits and risks of testosterone therapy are not well understood and new studies are revealing serious risks.

Doctors are cautioning that in light of these results, physicians like Anne Cappola need to "make sure that everyone taking testosterone is taking it for the right reasons and is experiencing benefits." Dr. Cappola further cautions that doctors and patients need to be wary of the aggressive marketing of testosterone therapy by the manufacturers and distibutors of the drugs. "There's a lot of marketing out there of testosterone and low-T syndrome, and a lot of men who want to feel better. So that marketing appeals to them, but they are not hearing any of the risks side, which is often harder to quantify."

If you or a loved one have suffered a heart attack, stroke or death following testosterone therapy, please call our office for a free consultation.
