A Louisville car accident involving an off-duty Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) officer claims the life of a 22-year-old woman. The incident took place at approximately 11:30 PM on Saturday evening, May 22, 2010, at the intersection of North Hurstbourne Parkway and Headley Hill Road.

According to the LMPD, witnesses report that the off-duty officer, James Adams, was speeding southbound on North Hurstbourne Parkway when a driver, who was traveling northbound, made a left turn into the path of Adam’s vehicle.

The driver of the second car has been identified as 22-year-old Sarah Bearden. She was pronounced dead from injuries sustained in the accident.

James Adams, an officer with the Metro Narcotics Unit, was also injured in the wreck. He sustained a leg and back injury as a result of the crash.

“He was going too fast, he was swerving,” Vanessa Melton, a witness to the crash, reported.

The fatal Louisville car accident is still under investigation by local authorities. According to officials, Adam’s has no speeding violations in his personnel file. He has been placed on paid administrative leave until the conclusion of the investigation.
