Deadly Louisville Car Crash Caused by Drunk, Wrong-Way Driver

Posted on May 15, 2012
Louisville Metro Police arrested a man who was involved in a Louisville car crash that led to one woman’s death. Now court documents have revealed that the male driver had been drinking prior to the April 30, 2012, traffic accident that claimed the life of the young woman.

Maynor Gonzalez, 23, was responsible for the deadly wreck. According to the Louisville Metro Police reports, Gonzalez admitted to drinking five beers before he drove and had cocaine in his wallet.

Gonzalez was traveling eastbound in westbound lanes of traffic on Hurstbourne Parkway, near Fegenbush Lane, when the accident occurred. He hit another car head-on. The driver of that car, 23-year-old Ashley Martinez, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police charged Gonzalez with driving under the influence, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and murder. He is being held on $100,000 cash bond.

Sadly, deaths related to drunk driving accidents in Kentucky have increased:

  • In 2008, 26 people died in Kentucky accidents where at least one driver had a BAC between .01% and .07%.
  • In 2010, 39 people were killed where at least one driver had a BAC between .01% and .07%.
  • In 2008, 187 deadly crashes involved at least one driver who had a BAC of .08% or higher.
  • In 2010, 191 alcohol-related deaths occurred where at least one driver had a BAC of .08% or higher.

As the above numbers indicate, there was a substantial increase in alcohol-related deaths between 2008 and 2010, which the last full reported year of statistics.

Our Louisville accident attorneys at the Law Offices of Schachter, Hendy, & Johnson would like to send our most sincere condolences to the family of Ashley Martinez.
