Cincinnati Car Accident Involves Fatal High-Speed Chase

A Cincinnati car accident involving three vehicles began with a high-speed police chase and ended with the fatalities of two people. The incident took place at approximately 1:00 AM on Wednesday morning, March 16, 2011, near the corner of Sycamore Street and Eighth Street.
According to Cincinnati police officers, police gave chase to a stolen sport utility vehicle (SUV) driven by a man allegedly under the influence of alcohol and crack cocaine. The eight-minute high-speed chase ended when the stolen SUV, driven by 39-year-old Mark Gerth, hit a PT Cruiser and slammed into a taxi.
The cab driver, Ould Mohamed Sidi, 33, of Erlanger, and passenger 39-year-old Tonya Hairston, lost their lives in the crash.
Neither of the occupants in the PT Cruiser, driver Amanda Temple and her passenger, 21-year-old Sarah Weichelt, were injured in the crash.
"I saw this car coming screaming toward us," Weichelt said. "I said something really loud and thankfully she stopped, but we were blocking the view of the taxi."
Mr. Gerth fled the accident scene, leaving his injured passenger behind. Police later apprehended Mr. Gerth in a church parking lot.
This fatal Cincinnati car accident is still under investigation by local authorities.
