Butler County Crash Kills Teen

A Fairfield car accident involving two vehicles leaves one teen dead. The incident took place at approximately 3:00 PM on Wednesday afternoon, December 2, 2009 in Butler County, north of Cincinnati.
According to Fairfield police, Joshua Crain, 18, a junior at Fairfield High School, died when the pickup truck he was riding in struck a Ryder rental moving truck head on. Crain’s 16-year-old girlfriend, Taylor Rhodus, was driving the pickup truck at the time and was traveling northbound on Gilmore Road when she entered the southbound lanes and struck the Ryder truck.
Crain was pronounced dead at the scene. It was unclear as to whether he was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.
Rescue workers transported Rhodus to University Hospital in Cincinnati where she remains in intensive care. Her injuries include broken leg bones, a shattered kneecap and broken ribs. It is believed that Rhodus was wearing a seatbelt.
The driver of the Ryder truck, John Yocum, 47, of Harrison, was transported to Bethesda North Hospital and treated for injuries to his hands. The Ryder truck was rented by UPS and Yocum was working at the time of the incident. It is believed that he was also wearing a seatbelt.
The two-vehicle accident is still under investigation by local authorities. It is unclear as to what made Rhodus swerve into the southbound lanes.
