Adair County Woman Dies in Kentucky Accident

A Kentucky pedestrian accident involving an Adair County woman attempting to cross the Public Square in Columbia ends in her death.  The incident took place on Wednesday morning, October 28, 2009.

The victim, Kathy Gaskins Grant, 55, of Columbia, was attempting to cross the Public Square to the Adair County Courthouse when a Dodge pickup truck slammed into her. According to reports from the Columbia Police Department, Grant was not in a designated crosswalk when the accident took place near the Burkesville Street side of the Public Square.

The 1999 Dodge truck that struck Grant was driven by Joey Keith, 37, of Columbia.

Rescue workers at the scene transported Grant by air to the University of Louisville Hospital where she died at 5:25 PM, October 30, 2009, from injuries she sustained in the Kentucky pedestrian accident.

Grant was employed by the Kentucky Department of Public Advocacy where she worked as a criminal investigator.

No information was provided as to whether Keith was treated for injuries or was transported to a nearby hospital.

The cause of the accident has not been determined. It has not been made clear to whether any charges will be filed.

The Columbia accident involving the Adair County woman is still under investigation by local authorities.
