10-Year-Old Child Dies in Hardin County Crash with Dump TruckPosted on Mar 09, 2012
According to the Jefferson County coroner’s office, Ruby Salinas, of the 6400 block of Stableview Place in Okolona, died of her injuries around 8:00 AM Tuesday morning.
Officials indicate that Ruby was a passenger in a car driven by her father. Ruby’s dad Gustavo Salinas, 41, and her 34-year-old mother Margarita were traveling in a 1999 GMC Jimmy heading eastbound on Ky. 84 in Sonora when the accident occurred.
Authorities do not know why their vehicle pulled into the path of a dump truck. Some reports have indicated that the vehicle rolled into an intersection and into the path of the truck. However, investigations are still being conducted.
A Peterbilt dump truck traveling northbound on US 31W hit the GMC’s passenger side. Marion Enlow, 58, of Elizabethtown, the driver of the dump truck, suffered minor injuries and was taken to Hardin Memorial Hospital.
Officials said that Ruby’s mother and father suffered minor injuries and were also transported to Hardin Hospital in Elizabethtown. Ruby was taken to the same hospital as her parents, but she was later flown to Kosair Children’s Hospital.
Police revealed that all three inside the GMC were wearing their seat belts.
A third vehicle was struck by the debris from the accident, but that driver was not injured.
Our Northern Kentucky accident attorneys with the Law Offices of Schachter, Hendy, & Johnson would like to extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of this ten-year-old girl, and we wish everyone injured in this wreck a complete recovery.
