Yaz or Yasmin Birth Control Can Cause Deep Vein Thrombosis
Deep vein thrombosis is a painful condition that can be caused by Yaz or Yasmin birth control. This medical condition is defined by Wikipedia.org as “the formation of a blood clot (‘thrombus’) in a deep vein. It is a form of thrombophlebitis (inflammation of a vein with clot formation).” It typically affects the leg veins.If you have taken Yaz or Yasmin, you need to be aware of the symptoms of this serious, possibly life-threatening illness. Signs of deep vein thrombosis are not always apparent, but can surface if there is a deep vein clot. Some of the symptoms include:
- Leg swelling
- Swelling along a vein in the leg
- Leg pain
- Tenderness in the leg when walking or standing
- Increased warmth in the swollen area
- Redness or discoloration on the leg
It is important to note that sometimes the symptoms of deep vein thrombosis are related to pulmonary embolism, which can lead to shortness of breath, pain when breathing and coughing up blood. If you experience symptoms of deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism, you need to see your doctor immediately.
There are treatment options available for this condition. The focus of the treatment will be on preventing the blood clot from getting bigger and stopping the blood clot from moving to the lungs. Your doctor will also work on decreasing your chance of developing another blood clot in the future.
You can take medication to treat deep vein thrombosis, such as anticoagulants or thrombolytics. Some of the other treatment options include a vena cava filter and graduated compression stockings.
