It seems that about one or two years ago, consumers were willing to pay hundreds of dollars for toning shoes that claimed to tighten thighs, calves, butts, and even abs. However, it appears shoemakers are now trying to unload these toning shoes, selling them at $50 or less.Although Skechers is using Kim Kardashian in their commercials to help sell more Shape-ups, it doesn't mean that anyone could look like a celebrity if they put those same shoes on.
There is no evidence that supports claims that these shoes can help a person tone their muscles, burn more calories, and look like a swimsuit model. And, it seems like the American public is catching on and finally listening to the skepticism that doctors, advocates, and fitness authorities have vocalized, as there is proof in the numbers.
Wobbly and unevenly soled shoes from Skechers and Reebok, claiming to give consumers quick results, previously caused those companies' sales to increase; however, these same companies are now losing money. Sales of Skechers have been awful, and their stock has also tanked.
Skechers Chief Operating Officer David Weinberg said "We aggressively reduced our excess toning inventory during the second quarter by selling 2 million pairs of our original Shape-ups for a loss of $21 million."
It appears that people are reading the studies and listening to others complaining of Kentucky toning shoe injuries such as turned ankles and pain in their hips and legs after wearing these shoes, which could be why sales are dropping. However, since there will be a large supply of these shoes in the marketplace at reduced prices, many consumers will start stepping in to fitness shoes hoping it will make them look like Kim Kardashian.
Before you try a pair of toning shoes, read what Consumer Reports says about the shoes. The shoes' instability "could send you to the couch with your foot in a cast." If you want to tone your legs and body, walk more in normal running shoes, cut back on the bad food you eat, and spend more time in the gym.
