If you have been taking Yaz, you need to be aware of a potentially serious side effect of this drug. Heart arrhythmia, also referred to as irregular heartbeat, has been associated with Yaz birth control.Heart arrhythmia is defined by MayoClinic.com as a condition that “occurs when the electrical impulses in your heart that coordinate your heartbeats don’t function properly, causing your heart to beat too fast, too slow or irregularly.” While heart arrhythmias are generally harmless, occasionally this condition can be life threatening.
There are many symptoms associated with arrhythmias, including fluttering in the chest, racing heartbeat, slow heartbeat and dizziness. However, there are warning signs that should prompt you to call your doctor. These warning signs include:
- Shortness of breath
- Weakness
- Wheezing
- Lightheadedness
- Fainting
- Chest pain
- Premature heartbeats
- Rapid, erratic heartbeats
One of the most deadly types of arrhythmia is known as ventricular fibrillation. It occurs when the heart beats with rapid, erratic electrical impulses. The heart’s pumping chambers start to tremble uselessly and do not pump blood. This condition can cause your blood pressure to significantly drop, which will stop the blood supply to your vital organs.
