At this time it is not entirely clear how Xarelto causes bleeds. It appears that Xarelto may place additional stress on weak spots and cause bleeds in those locations.
What is clear is that Xarelto not only causes bleeds, but also magnifies the injuries suffered and treatment required as a result of those bleeds.
Unlike traditional blood thinners that involve regular blood testing to ensure the drug is being used safely and effectively, the makers of Xarelto do not recommend regular blood testing. This choice left many patients unaware of the fact that at their current dose of Xarelto they were at an increased risk for bleeds.
Further, once a Xarelto patient has a bleeding event, doctors are not able to stop the bleed easily due to the lack of a reversal agent. These choices have magnified the severity of bleeds on Xarelto and increased the risk of death.
