Attorney Ron Johnson on Good Morning America to discuss toning shoe injury

Attorney Ron Johnson was recently interviewed on the ABC morning news program Good Morning America to discuss a case where his client allegedly suffered stress fractures in both hips after wearing Skecher Shape-ups, a popular brand of toning shoes.

Ron's comments focused on the fact that Skechers does not cite to any safety studies it performed before marketing and selling a shoe to the public that is designed to make the foot unstable and dramatically changes the way humans walk.

Dear Mr. Johnson,

I am writing about the sketchers shape-up shoes.

I bought my sketcher shoes around April of this year. I wore them up until 2 weeks ago. When I took my sketchers off and walked barefoot or in Flip Flops I noticed a lot of pain in my Achellies Tendon in my left foot and on top of my foot by my toes there is pain there. On my right foot I have pain on the outside of my foot. I am wondering if I might have fractures on both feet also. I did not have these problems until I started wearing sketchers! I have not gone to a Doctor yet because I am hoping with walking in my other tennis shoes maybe my feet will get better but so far this has not happened. I would like to be included in a lawsuit if there is one.

I just decided to check out this Shape Ups lawsuit as I am having severe pain in one of my knees and both my hips. I have NEVER had knee or hip issues before, and I realize that the days when the pain feels a lot better are the days I do NOT wear the shoes. It hurts so bad I can't sleep properly - can't lay on either of my sides as the pain in each hip makes me cry, so I have been sleeping a lot of the time in a recliner. I think it is the shoes and I will be going to see my doctor to see if they can check me out, and I have sent a query through to these attorneys too. All I can say if, if you're reading this and think, me too - we ALL have to get in contact with an attorney to get these shoes off the market as I am almost 100% sure they are causing serious injuries!

I hurt myself when I fell with them no traction and not normal balance I fell off the moving van landed on the metal bumper hit my knee and butt and almost broke my hand.I have pictures and a back injury do to wearing them.I have been fine for several years thought I would try them and possibly tone and strengthen my whole body, instead I am in pain and days I cant cope with the pain.I live on pain pills. My boss told me to wear boots or a shoe with traction.

i just recently started wearing shape-ups because I thought they would be a good comfortable shoe for daily wear at work. I've been suffering from swollen ankles and shins, and painful achilles tendons for weeks now...i thought it was a serious health problem, and even went out and bought compression stockings (and im a youg woman) but now realise it's probably cuz i just started wearing the shoes- the timing makes perfect sense. argh! when will the pain stop???

Hi, i purchased a pair of shapeups because i wanted a comfortable shoe with support, and not for the toning. I don't believe that you shoes can tone your legs. However, i did believe the commericals that said you could shapeup anywhere. These commericals showed people walking fast, jumping and even running, i think. These were exercise shoes, tennis shoes so you would not expect to get hurt while wearing them-but i did. I had turned my ankle a couple of times prior to Oct 2010 but I kept telling myself it couldn't be the shoes. My thoughts changed on 10/10/10 when i broke my left ankle in three places and my lower tiba. My right ankle had a severe sprain and bruising up the tiba. It is now April 2011 and i've had two surgeries. The first one left with me alot of metal around my ankle and a rod from my knee to my ankle. The second was to remove the rod because the tiba wasn't healing completely. The break was to close to the ankle. The alternative fix was for the doctor to pull back the muscle, skin, and nerves and put a plate over the broken tiba. I've been dealing with this for seven months now, and still only 50% healed. I contacted skecthers to let them know and they told me to send the shoes back and contact their legal department. Didn't even mention a refund for the shoes.
I would like to know if they responded to you, please feel free to contact me at 678-314-0808 or email me.
thanks and good luck!

I own 2 pairs of shape ups. I was wearing them all the time until recently. I noticed I was in a lot of pain in my lower back, hips and knees. I thought it might be my skechers, so I and told my huband. He saw you on TV and told me. I found this site today. I left you a voice mail.

Thanks,
Sunny from Ca.
